Raipur, 17 July 2025
Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Shri Arun Sao, after receiving the Swachhata Award with the Mayors, Chairpersons and officials of seven urban bodies of the state in New Delhi today, said that for the first time so many urban bodies of Chhattisgarh have received national awards together. This has been possible due to the commitment of Vishnu’s good governance and urban administration department, the cooperation of all Swachhata Mitras and the citizens of the city. Last year, the Good Governance Government had released Rs 7400 crore for the development and cleanliness of the bodies, which has yielded this pleasant result.
After receiving the award on behalf of the urban bodies of the state, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sao said that Chhattisgarh has fulfilled the motto of “Swachhata Param Dharma:”. The people of the state have made cleanliness a part of culture. He said that the honour that Chhattisgarh’s bodies are getting at the national level is the result of the able guidance of the respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Vishnu’s good governance, cooperation of the people of the state and the dedication and hard work of the officers and employees.
Mr. Saav said that after taking charge of the Urban Administration and Development Department, the officials of the urban bodies were directed to conduct regular field inspections. This brought about a positive change in the cleanliness system in cities. The places where large amounts of garbage are dumped were marked as cleanliness targeted units and emphasis was laid on cleaning them. In the two-day Nagar Suraj Sangam organized in the capital Raipur, the public representatives and officials of all the urban bodies were made aware of the best practices and innovations adopted for better cleanliness in the country and abroad. They were also encouraged to visit and study the cleanest cities of the country and adopt excellent practices in their respective bodies. After the study tour, a workshop was organized and experiences were shared by brainstorming on the implemented innovations. Mr. Saav said that I am confident that in the coming times, even better results will be seen in the field of cleanliness in Chhattisgarh.
